Forum highlights neighbourhood rights

WYNDHAM community lawyers, Victoria Police and the Dispute Settlement Centre Victoria are urging residents to attend a free forum on neighbourhood rights and responsibilities, as figures show Wyndham has among the highest number of disputes statewide.

The city ranked third for neighbour disputes from July 2011 to June 2012, with 663 calls in total.

Fences, trees and creepers and unruly and intimidating behaviour were the leading causes of disputes between neighbours in Wyndham.

Shorna Moore, of Wyndham Legal Service, says tomorrow’s forum, from 1pm-3pm at Point Cook Community Learning Centre, will cover what it means to be a “good neighbour”, what you can do if you are having problems with your neighbour, and what assistance is available to resolve conflicts.

“If the problem continues . . . there are various ways of handling it, including mediation and speaking to a lawyer,” Ms Moore said.
