PARKS Victoria ranger Bernie McCarrick has watched the annual migration of birds to Point Cook for decades.
With many young families also flocking to Wyndham, he says it’s important newcomers understand the significance of the wetlands, coastal parks and unique birdlife so close to their homes.
Saltwater Coast’s inaugural winter birdlife event on Saturday will include a tour to highlight the importance of the wetlands and coastal parks for migratory birds.
Mr McCarrick hopes visitors will catch a glimpse of the blue-winged parrot.
“Point Cook is part of an internationally protected wetland that hosts thousands of migratory birds each year, so it is vital the community works together to preserve this rare and special environment.”
The tour departs from the Point Cook Homestead & Café car park at 9am.
