THE future of a closed Laverton North motorcycle track that attracts illegal trail bike riders will be placed in the hands of the community.
Wyndham council will host a forum to gauge residents’ opinions on how the track at Lawrie Emmins Reserve should be used after it was closed to the public in 2010.
The track has become a haven for illegal trail bike riders, who access the site through holes in the fence.
Police regularly carry out blitzes to educate and fine users amid concerns someone will be seriously injured.
The council will spend $265,000 to make the track secure.
Cr Bob Fairclough said council was concerned about the safety of people illegally using the track.
“We understand there’s currently a shortage of off-road motorcycle facilities in Melbourne’s west and that’s why we will be asking for feedback from the community to determine the future of the track.”
The forum is at the civic centre on Tuesday, July 16, from 7-8.30pm.
