UPDATE: A man is dead and two people are injured after a ute collided with a bus at Laverton on Friday morning.
Police say the ute was travelling on Old Geelong Road towards Werribee when “for some reason” it veered onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into a bus travelling in the other direction about 11am.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade rescue teams battled for 40 minutes to free the man, aged in his 50s, but he died at the scene.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Creina O’Grady said the man’s details would not be released until his relatives had been notified.
Paramedics treated two passengers who were on board the bus for injuries sustained during the crash.
The bus driver was not injured.
Police are on the scene investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Old Geelong Road is closed to traffic between Bladin Street and Fitzgerald Road.
