100 up for jolly good fellow William

IT was party time at Werribee’s Glendale Aged Care yesterday as residents, staff and family came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of William Glew.

Mr Glew, who moved into the centre with his wife Linda two years ago, was born in Footscray on August 6, 1913.

The couple had seven children and were together 76 years, before Linda died earlier this year.

For 50 years, Mr Glew worked part-time as a bookmaker’s clerk.

His daughter Gail says he could name every Melbourne Cup winner and loves a beer, the Western Bulldogs and telling a good story. “He’s a friend to everyone and would be the first to help.”
