WERRIBEE Centrals stumbled in their battle to claim third place in the Geelong and District Football League Smiths Holden Cup.
The Centurions had to beat East Geelong in the third-versus-fourth bout at Galvin Park on Saturday to remain in the double chance hunt. They came up short by 20 points.
Phillip Jones’ form continued for the Centurions with a third best-on-ground performance in six matches.
Player-coach Luke Phipps also continued his good run.
The Centurions sit on 36 points, ahead of four teams on 32, but have a chance to clinch their spot on the road against cellar- dweller Inverleigh on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Roland Beck brought up 300 games for the Centurions in the reserves’ eight-point win over East Geelong on Saturday. It was a fine effort, considering Beck has also played with Lara in a bid to pursue a higher level of football.
