Bears to soothe siblings after heartbreak

A POINT Cook family will donate 100 teddy bears to Werribee Mercy Hospital for siblings of stillborn babies.

Kath and Steve Currie decided to donate the bears after their daughter Melinda was stillborn at 38 weeks on July 17.

The hospital gave their other daughter Elianna a ‘‘sibling bear’’ so that she had something to cuddle every night.

The family decided to repay the hospital’s kindness by asking that bears be brought to Melinda’s funeral instead of flowers. Mrs Currie said the bears would ensure no sibling left the hospital with empty arms.
