Patients of Werribee Mercy Hospital’s
mother-baby service will
benefit from the generosity of the Werribee Secondary College community.
Year-12 students held a bake
sale to raise money for supplies and toys for mothers and babies using
the service.
The service is an eight-bed, eight-cot unit within Mercy’s
mental-health unit that treats mothers who have mental illnesses or
relationship issues with their babies, such as trouble bonding.
Service
manager Kate Lee said she was pleased students were raising awareness of
perinatal mental-health issues.
“The more these issues are discussed in
the community, the quicker we can eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness”.
