Point Cook town centre revamp complete

Point Cook residents got their first look at their revamped town centre today.

Work has finished on the $25 million redevelopment, which gives shoppers new speciality stores and a Woolworths supermarket to explore.

The redevelopment has created more than 150 new retail jobs as well as 250 construction jobs during its building program.

Work on the revamp began last October.

Developer Stockland believes the redevelopment has repositioned the shopping centre as the only one in the area offering three supermarkets.

Design and development general manager Tim Beattie said the redevelopment had reaffirmed Point Cook town centre’s position as a premier fresh food destination.

“Stockland Point Cook is located in one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing population corridors, so we are pleased to be opening this development on schedule and delivering a centre that will serve the needs of this growing community,” Mr Beattie said.

The redevelopment has focused on the centre’s south-west corner, at Boardwalk Boulevard and Dunnings Road, which was previously occupied by Best & Less and Harris Scarfe.

The 4000-square-metre Woolworths, which includes an in-store bakery and butcher, and the new Vodafone, Nextra, Specsavers, Reliance Real Estate and Christiane’s Hair Salon open their doors today, joining the recently opened Michele’s Patisserie, Point Cook Pharmacy and Sparkling Car Wash.

The works have not increased the centre’s floor space, with Woolworths having been rebuilt in the place of Harris Scarfe and Best & Less. However, a new playspace has been added to the town centre, courtesy of Stockland’s CARE Foundation partner, Touched by Olivia.

The playspace, due to open in the coming weeks, has been designed to ensure that children of all abilities are able to play well and interact together.

“We’re excited to be delivering so much more for this community and be opening the first all-inclusive playground within a shopping centre in Victoria,” Mr Beattie said.
