Fate finds psychic muse

Lisa Edwards is not a typical author.

For one, she did not slave for years over her debut novel, Can’t Fight Fate.

Although the idea had been in her mind for decades, the actual manuscript took a mere two months to complete.

Similarly, when it came time to securing a contract, she sent the book out to 12 publishers – and three replied – giving the Point Cook resident the luxury of choosing the best deal for her.

Can’t Fight Fate tells the story of Nikki, a spirited Aussie girl whose life changes forever when she visits a psychic, who reveals her soulmate as a ‘Mr Hollywood’, with crystal green eyes.

Fast-forward 17 years and Nikki, now a Hollywood entertainment lawyer, finds herself face-to-face with the green-eyed man.

The book is strongly influenced by a psychic reading Ms Edwards had when she was 21 and it explores whether the words of a psychic can influence one’s thoughts and actions. The book hit the shelves on Saturday and is the first in a trilogy.

Ms Edwards has already penned book number two and will start work shortly on her third.

Writing out of her home office, Ms Edwards says she treats writing like any nine-to-five job and doesn’t get writer’s block.

“It’s a book that I’ve been talking about for a long, long time. I don’t write in order, and it depends on what my moods are at the time. If I’m angry, [my character] is angry.”

Ms Edwards ran her own entertainment agency for 12 years before selling up in 2013 to focus on writing.

She has also travelled back and forth between Hollywood and Point Cook for the past four years, working as an actor on a number of short films.
