A Singapore microbrewery has Truganina in its sights, announcing plans to open a brewery and beer garden in the suburb later this year.
Last week, RedDot, Singapore’s first locally owned, independent commercial micro- brewery, announced plans to open at Foundation Road, Truganina.
It will be the first time the company has operated a brewery outside of Singapore.
The Truganina facility will be equipped with two production lines capable of producing 12,000 bottles and 10,000 cans per hour. It is expected to create 25 jobs.
RedDot Brewhouse director Ernest Ng told Star Weekly he chose to open his first international brewery in Truganina because factory space in the suburb was still relatively affordable, allowing him to be part of Australia’s emerging craft beer scene.
“I see that Australians appreciate beers and are very excited about freshly brewed craft beer,” he said.
“I foresee that the craft brew market in Australia will take off in the near future and RedDot wished to be a part of the Australian craft brew scene.”
Mr Ng said the brewery would be in an industrial area and he hoped to include a tasting room, brewery tours and brewing classes.
Beers made at Truganina will initially be sold to the Australian retail and food service industries, but the company also has plans to export its products to China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Trade and Employment Minister Louise Asher said the Truganina brewery would allow RedDot to introduce its “highly regraded”, unfiltered and unprocessed beers to Australian drinkers.
“Victoria’s excellent reputation for high food safety standards, the availability of affordable industrial land and strong state government support were instrumental in RedDot choosing Melbourne for this major investment,” she said.
