June 12, 1974

Werribee Shire Council protested at the lack of privacy at Werribee’s Children’s Court and at the delay in building a new court complex in Werribee. It said children attending the court were exposed to everyone in the vicinity. Government sources were unable to give a date for completion of the complex.

30 years ago

June 13, 1984

More than 40 Werribee traders formed a traders’ association in opposition to the local chamber of commerce. A spokesman for the group said its members were fed up with the parochial way the chamber was run.

20 years ago

June 8, 1994

Maternity services will be available at the new Werribee Mercy Hospital from June 20 and surgical services from June 27 after a long-running dispute between doctors and the hospital’s administration was settled the previous week. Doctors agreed to cater for at least 500 admissions a month and 1000 births a year.

10 years ago

June 9, 2004

Wyndham council could lose many of its planning powers under proposals being considered by the state and federal governments. The council lashed out at the federal government’s proposals, which Wyndham mayor Henry Barlow said would leave “technocrats” to administer a “one-size fits-all” planning regime for councils.
