More jobs for Truganina industrial estate

A Wyndham business will double its employment base with the opening of a new purpose-built facility in Truganina.

Construction has started on a 6700-square- metre warehouse and office space for Laverton Cold Storage, which specialises in the short- term storage of meat products for international export and has been operating in Laverton North since 2013.

It is expected to be complete before the end of the year.

The development, the first to be built at the new Drystone Industrial Estate, also includes 5747 square metres of space reserved for future expansion.

The business has seen unprecedented demand from Asian companies in the past year. Similar strong demand from existing clients led to the construction of the second cold storage facility.

Laverton Cold Storage managing director Richard Ralph said the new centre would create 35 new jobs, doubling the existing workforce.

“We chose Truganina because of its proximity to Melbourne and to the wharf, and it has good access for our customers,” he said.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said it was great to see a local company reinvesting in the area.

“We have always known the Laverton North and Truganina industrial precincts are the logistics powerhouses of Melbourne, and it’s exciting to see economic development and job creation being driven by home-grown companies,” Cr Maynard said.

“This is a major investment for a Wyndham‐based company and it confirms that Truganina offers a significant location and cost advantage for existing or new businesses.”
