WYNDHAM WEST GROWTH: How the west was won

Plans to bring forward construction of the Armstrong and Ison roads link will change the way residents move around Wyndham.

Manor Lakes resident Lesley Watson said the roads and a proposed bridge over the rail line would make accessing Geelong and the city much easier for people living in Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes.

She said people currently had to drive along McGrath Road and on back streets to access the freeway.

“This will link Greens Road to Armstrong Road and the freeway. We have been waiting three or four years for Armstrong Road and thought it would be 2017-18 before it was built.

“We’re grateful and thankful that it is being brought forward.”

Manor Lakes Residents Association president Cedric Young said the road link and bridge would be most beneficial for people travelling from Wyndham to Geelong or Melbourne CBD for work.

“This means they won’t have to go through Werribee. In school times, the traffic travelling through Werribee is really bad,” he said.

“I think this will be great for the community as a whole.”

Wyndham Vale resident Greg Byrne said the construction of Armstrong and Ison roads would help get trucks off Ballan Road and relieve the pressure on what he says is a worn and rough road.

Mr Young said he was pleased the government was committed to developing the infrastructure in Wyndham’s west over the next 30 years to meet the needs of existing and future communities.

“It is really great to see a long-term commitment to the area.”
