Shedders to the rescue

If you find yourself at Iramoo Community Centre and happen to notice a bright coloured basin near the children’s playground, you can thank a few handy blokes.

The Wyndham Vale Men’s Shed, more specifically.

The shedders recently surprised users of the community centre by installing a new children’s kitchen area by the existing playground.

Shed spokesperson Peter Gibbons said the guys got involved after seeing the state of the old basin area the kids were using.

“The shed became involved when we were asked if we could do something about the existing kiddie’s kitchen which consisted of an old washbasin and a separate cook top and was in a bad state of repair,” Mr Gibbons said.

“I suggested the design to our members, then one of our members, John Cassar, sourced some surplus wood from Bunnings, built it at his home, then transported it to the shed where other members assembled the parts and painted it.

“It was a good team effort.”

It should be worth noting the community was not exactly expecting this move of kindness.

“The best part of it was the reaction from the Iramoo Community Centre staff when they discovered that we had installed it while they were away,” Mr Gibbons said.

“Since then, it has been such fun watching the kids busy doing kitchen stuff.”

Anyone interested in joining the shed can phone 8742 6448 or call in on a Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between 9am and 3pm.
