Works have begun on a new shopping centre complex in Werribee’s Riverwalk estate, with construction expected to start in the coming months.
On Wednesday 26 November, developer Oreana announced that early works had kicked off on the $88 million Riverwalk Village.
Spanning 26,000sqm across two sites at 1 and 2 Newmarket Road, the future shopping centre will be built around a Coles and Liquorland.
Alongside those facilities, there will be 42 individual shops delivered in two stages, officers and a section for food and beverage retailers.
Shops and workplaces are grouped into connected clusters across both sides of Newmarket Road, which is intended to create a pedestrian-friendly environment that invites movement and discovery, the developer said.
According to the company, construction is expected to commence at the end of the first quarter in 2026, and the complex is slated to open to the public sometime during the first half of 2027.
Retailers confirmed include Anytime Fitness, Direct Chemist Outlet and a medical centre complemented by other health and wellness services, a butcher, nail salon, barber and a laundromat.
Oreana managing director Tony Sass said Riverwalk Village would be a cornerstone of the growing Werribee community.
“This new shopping centre has been purposefully designed to make everyday life easier – bringing together everything locals need in one place, from a state-of-the-art supermarket and early learning centre to a diverse mix of specialty retailers,” he said.
Mr Sass said the developer’s intention was to create an area that encourages people to socialise while they shop.
“It’s more than just a shopping destination; it’s about creating a true community hub, a place where people can meet, connect and feel part of their neighbourhood as it continues to grow,” he said.
“Commencement of early works and the confirmation of retailers is an important milestone for the community, which has been waiting eagerly for this project to come to life.”
