Helping people feel and look better

Local Paula Dee has been helping people battling cancer look good and feel better through her workshops.

Ms Dee who has been a volunteer for more than a decade recently teamed up with NIVEA and cancer-support charity Look Good Feel Better to deliver online workshops covering a range of cosmetic tips and tricks.

Look Good Feel Better is a national cancer-support program that has helped over 190,000 Australian women, men, and young adults through their cancer diagnosis to date.

Ms Dee said she came across the program at an industry expo and the program’s philosophy immediately resonated with her.

“I have always been a big believer in giving back and I have volunteered overseas and locally, and I thought Look Good, Feel Better really stood out as a meaningful way to support people here,” she said.

The talks she has hosted range from skincare, make up techniques and how to deal with things like skin pigmentation changes.

“Those little things can really affect how you see yourself,” she said.

“It is not just about changing how someone looks, it is about having them recognise themselves again.

“It is not just about on the inside but it is within themselves, so volunteering for Look Good, Feel Better gives me a chance to connect with people who are going through such a tough time and help them find a bit of confidence and normality.”

The workshops have also been a way for people to make friends in some of the most testing of circumstances.

“It has always been a way for people with cancer to connect with each other and make friends and that sense of community is what is really all about,” Ms Dee said.
