Wimba grows off

You may have noticed Wimba Primary School is looking a little bit greener of late.

That might be because their students planted 50 trees, shrubs and grasses throughout the school grounds for National Tree Day on July 31.

The tree planting day was a collaborative effort between the school, local developer Peet Newhaven.

They weren’t short of professional help, however, as commercial landscaping company LD Total provided their expertise.

Arm in arm and hand in hand, they worked to establish new garden beds, including planting larger trees for screening along the school fence line.

Principal Paul Schwartz said the trees won’t be the only things that sprout from the initiative.

“Schools aren’t just places to learn, they’re community hubs that reflect the aspirations of our students and families,” he said.

Mr Schwartz also said the school was extremely grateful.

“We’re grateful to Peet Newhaven for donating the new trees and shrubs, which are transforming our new school into a greener, more natural space for our students.”

The initiative builds on last year’s inaugural planting day and is part of a collective commitment to developing an environmentally conscious community in the Newhaven estate.

Peet state manager said these events help inspire students to develop their green thumbs and are about community building in Tarneit.

“Quality natural spaces are one of the reasons why families choose to move to Newhaven, and this partnership is a perfect way to help students create a green legacy of their own that will grow right alongside them,” he said.
