Raiders complete clean sweep

Geelong and District Football & Netball League made it a clean sweep in three interleague matches against Colac and District at Winchelsea on Monday.

Although the Raiders won all three games, the results were tight.

GDNL won the 17 and under netball game in a thriller, 32-30, with North Geelong’s Ryla Carr best on court at wing attack.

In the senior netball, Belmont Lions goal attack was awarded the inaugural Justine Radford Medal for best on court in a tight 49-42 against Colac and District.

The medal is named after GDNL coach and current East Geelong coach Justine Radford.

Rising Werribee Centrals defender Alual Garang was part of the GDFNL team.

Corio midcourter Molly Gribble and East Geelong winger Claudia Cook were also good players for GDNL while Lorne’s Leigh Potter was best for Colac and District.

Anastasiah Sepulona Seaina, Ashlee Dumbleton and Tatiana Kralj represented Werribee Centrals in that match.

In the senior footy, which was an under-25s clash, an Austin Mulvahil goal after the siren gave Geelong and District a seven-point win, 11.13(79)-10.12(72).

Corio defender and Raiders captain Toby Bennett took out the Sid Jones medal as the GDFNL’s best on ground.

Colac hit the front 20 minutes into a frantic final quarter, but the Raiders responded and hung on.

Anakie big man Oscar Barter was a shining light for GDFL while Corio forward Herschelle Carr booted five goals in a dominant display.

Werribee Centrals’ trio Cam Saliba, Jack Stephenson and Regan Vesty were part of the senior footy side.
