The Rotary Club of Wyndham Harbour made history when it hosted its Foundation & DEI Gala on Saturday, November 16, the first of its kind in Wyndham.

In an effort to raise funds for The Rotary Foundation and to promote diversity and inclusion within the Rotary community, the event was a collaboration with other Rotary Clubs in the district, including The Rotary Club of Werribee, Rotary Club of Hoppers Crossing, and Rotary Club of Wyndham.

Rotary Club of Wyndham Harbour president Akinsola Akinbiyi discussed the motivation behind hosting the event.

“The event aims to showcase the DEI efforts of the Rotary clubs and encourage a more inclusive environment for all members,” Dr Akinbiyi said.

Dr Akinbiyi was asked what the most rewarding aspects of being a Rotarian in a multicultural environment were.

“Inclusivity fosters a sense of belonging and deeper connections among members, creating a more supportive and enjoyable club experience.”

“A diverse club can better serve a diverse community, leading to more effective and meaningful service projects.”

District Foundation Committee deputy chair Julie Mason delivered a keynote speech on The Rotary Foundation: Transforming Lives, Building Communities”

DJs, Polysnesian dancing, New Orleans jazz were among the multicultural displays.

The money raised will go towards global initiatives such as polio eradication, clean water and sanitation facilities, maternal and child healthcare, and vaccination programs.
