Keilor Thunder star Maddy Rocci is set to continue her WNBL career with the Southside Flyers for the upcoming season.
The three-time WNBL championship player is looking forward to continuing her career with the Flyers under new head coach, Kristi Harrower.
Harrower has coached Rocci at the Thunder in the recently finished National Basketball League 1 South women’s side, with the side making the grand final.
“I have really enjoyed being part of the Southside Flyers over the last three seasons and am looking forward to continuing to build the on-court success as well as the wonderful work we have been doing with junior clubs and the community,” Rocci said.
“It will be an exciting year for us, with several changes to the playing list and a new coaching group. I have been fortunate to be coached by Kristi Harrower in the NBL1 season and have experienced first-hand what a great coach she is.”
Rocci, who grew up in Werribee, commenced her WNBL career in Canberra where she was part of two championship teams before returning home to Melbourne to join the Flyers three seasons ago. Rocci was the Flyers vice-captain last season.
For Rocci, it is much more than on-court success that has ensured she remains at the Flyers. It is about continued development and being part of a great organisation.
“I know how fortunate we are at the Flyers to have the use of the fantastic facilities at the State Basketball Centre for training and games,” she said. “Plus we have such a great group of players, coaches and staff supporting us, as well as the best supporters in the WNBL.”
Harrower said she’s delighted Rocci is continuing her career with the Flyers.
“I have seen the great development in her game in recent seasons and coaching her this winter I appreciate not only what she brings to the court with her play, but her leadership on and off the court,” she said.
