Here’s a quick look at how athletes from Melbourne’s north-west went on day four.

Basketball

The Australian Boomers missed their chances against Canada in their second pool match on Wednesday morning. The Boomers trailed by four points at half time before the Candaians finished strong to win, 93-83. Josh Giddey top scored with 19 points while Dante Exum, who returned from a dislocated finger, scored 15 points.

Shooting

James Willett made the final of the trap men’s final but couldn’t match it with the medal winners. Willett finished sixth in the six person final with 19 points and was eliminated on the second stage of the final. Great Britain’s Nathan Hales won with 48 points.

Judo

Katherina Haecker has been knocked out of the judo women’s 63 kilogram event in the opening round. Haecker faced Great Britian’s Lucy Renshall losing 11-1.

Swimming

Johann Stickland finished in 66th spot in the men’s 100 metres freestyle heats. The Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre staff member was competing for Samoa. He finished eighth in his heat with a time of 52.94.

Volleyball

Thomas Hodges suffered a first pool game loss in beach volleyball. Hodges, who is paired with Zachery Scubert, lost to Polish pair Michal Byrl and Bartosz Losiak two sets to nil. The Polish team won both sets 21-16.

Cycling

Olympic road cyclist Lucas Plapp has withdrawn from this weekend’s race on medical grounds after undergoing abdominal surgery for injuries he sustained in a crash during last Saturday’s 32 kilometre individual time trial. Lucas crashed in wet conditions soon after passing through the 13km checkpoint with the fourth best time. “Luke is receiving the best of care in hospital and is being well supported by our medical team,” Chef de Mission Anna Meares said. “We expect he’ll be out of hospital this week and wish him a speedy recovery.” Lucas will be replaced by West Australian, Ben O’Connor, who will join Simon Clarke and Michael Matthews for the 272km event.
