Wyndham’s northern fringe will be expanded, with more than 800 houses to be built in a new Tarneit estate.
The 65-hectare Habitat on Davis Creek development, on the corner of Sayers and Davis roads, will include 820 houses.
More than 150 lots will front Davis Creek, which passes through the centre of the site.
The estate is being built by Satterley Property Group, which is also developing the New York-themed Upper Point Cook.
Satterley state general manager Jack Hoffman said Habitat on Davis Creek would bring more affordable housing to Tarneit, attracting young couples and families to the area.
He said house and land packages, starting at less than $300,000 and reaching about $450,000, would go on sale next month.
According to the latest figures from the valuer-general’s office, Tarneit’s average house price in March this year was $387,500, up from $355,000 in March 2013.
The figures revealed that Tarneit is Wyndham’s third-most-expensive suburb to buy a house.
The new development is part of the Riverdale precinct structure plan, which was approved by the Metropolitan Planning Authority in June last year.
The plan includes a proposed town centre and schools to be serviced by the Tarneit Regional Rail Link station, which is scheduled to open next year.
“With Tarneit’s population expected to grow by more than 25,000 residents by 2013, there is a strong need for quality residential communities in the area,” Mr Hoffman said.
“With so many lots facing Davis Creek, our objective has been to design a community that capitalises on the area’s natural surrounds.
‘‘Residents will be able to enjoy walking trails, wetlands and expansive open spaces.’’
