Man charged with curfew breach

A Sudanese-born man arrested in Werribee yesterday for allegedly breaching a visa-mandated curfew, has been granted bail.

The 34 year old appeared at the Melbourne Magistrates Court last night, charged with failing to comply with a residential curfew imposed as a condition of his Commonwealth visa.

Earlier on Tuesday, officers from the Australian Federal Police located the man in Werribee and charged him with allegedly breaching his curfew on Wednesday, July 3.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and/or a $93,900 fine.

The man was bailed to reappear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on October 1.
