The arrival of a tech giant in Truganina will be followed by an increase in trees and greenery in the suburb too.

In keeping a policy to to promote environmental initiatives near it’s buildings, Microsoft are funding the planting of native grasses, shrubs and trees near it’s cloud storage facility that is currently being constructed in Truganina.

The Werribee River Association have received funding from Microsoft to undertake the planting and are inviting Truganina locals, especially kids on school holidays, to get involved at a community planting day and barbecue on Wednesday June 10.

“It’s along the waterway (Forsyth Rd Drain) that runs along Merribah Way which is a really residential area so we really want to try and get the local community involved in this planting,” said the WRA’s Jess Fairfax of the where the July 10 event will take place.

“We really want the community that lives around there to understand what we’re doing and why we’re doing it and to basically be a part of it because it’ll be really beautiful once we increase the vegetation,” she said.

“It’ll increase habitat for native species and also increase urban greening for the community and provide more shelter and cool things down.”

Indigenous shrubs, grasses and maybe some trees will be planted on the day which runs from 10am to 12pm.

A free barbecue will be offered as well.

As part of their multi-year partnership with Microsoft, the WRA will be holding further planting events along Skeleton Creek and surrounding waterways in Truganina.
