New community centres open

A state-of-the-art community centre officially opened its doors in Truganina on Monday.

Suburbs Minister Sonya Kilkenny joined Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn, Laverton MP Sarah Connolly, Wyndham mayor Jennie Barrera and Wyndham councillors in opening the $18.4 million Truganina Community Centre on July 1.

Jointly funded by the state government, Wyndham council and developers, the centre features a number of facilities for young families including kindergarten rooms for three and four-year-olds, playgroups, maternal and child health consulting suites.

It also features a 500-square-metre library lounge with technology and study spaces, multipurpose community and meeting rooms, a community kitchen, staff offices, accessible amenities, outdoor areas, and on-site parking.

“The new Truganina Community Centre will go a long way to help create vital facilities for families and the community in the area,” Ms Kilkenny said.

“We’re investing in these growing suburbs, to ensure they remain great places to call home, where communities can thrive.”

Laverton MP Sarah Connolly said the new facility would be of great benefit to local residents.

“The Truganina Community Centre is a safe, welcoming neighbourhood space for local residents to connect and access the services, information and support they need,” she said.

Werribee’s Lollypop Creek Community Centre was also opened on Monday.

The state government provided funding for both centres through the Growing Suburbs Fund, Building Blocks Infrastructure Program and the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
