Firefighting recruits wanted

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) have announced the next round of firefighter recruitment is opening soon.

People from all walks of life are encouraged to apply to become a firefighter between July 1 and 8, 2024.

FRV Acting Commissioner Michelle Cowling AFSM said firefighting is no ordinary job.

“Some jobs stand out for the profound impact they have on the community, and this is a great case in point,” Acting Commissioner Cowling said.

“Firefighting is a highly respected profession and quickly becomes an extraordinary career. It’s a job in which no two days are the same, and every single day firefighters make a difference, working alongside Victoria’s other emergency services.”

To help attract recruits, FRV have highlighted the extensive range of skills and qualifications open to firefighters and the opportunities for role specialisation and career progression.

These include Emergency Medical Response (EMR), Urban Search and Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Heavy Rescue, Road Crash Rescue, Marine Response and more.

Candidates with strong problem-solving skills, integrity, accountability and physical fitness are encouraged to apply.

Acting Commissioner Cowling said FRV also wanted people from diverse backgrounds to become firefighters.

“We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of the community we serve,” she said.

“Firefighting is an exciting and rewarding career for people from all walks of life.”
