A man has been rescued after spending the night stuck on an island in the Werribee River.
Police responded to reports of a man found stranded on an island at Bungies Hole on the Werribee River at about 8.30am on Wednesday, January 10.
It is believed the man made his way across the river a day earlier and ended up on the island surrounded by rising river waters near Watton Street .
The 35-year-old man of no fixed address found himself marooned on the island overnight and it was only when a passer-by spotted him in distress on Wednesday morning that help was called for.
Water Police, search and rescue and SES personnel launched a dinghy into the water to rescue the man.
Once brought back to shore he was treated by paramedics but was not injured.
