It’s hoped that two off-road motorbikes loaned by Wyndham council to Victoria Police, will help tackle illegal trail bike riding and hooning.

Police will use the bikes to patrol roads, reserves, parks and other off-road areas where illegal trail bike use has occurred.

Council loaned the two motorbikes to Victoria Police’s Westgate Highway Patrol on Friday, following the extension of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties to 2024.

Wyndham Mayor Susan McIntyre said the partnership would benefit both police and the community.

“Wyndham City has a proactive and collaborative relationship with Victoria Police,

and we are continuing to work to find ways in which we can assist local Police and

do all we can to ensure community safety.”

This is a welcome initiative and being able to provide two motorbikes specifically to

help keep residents safe is one way Council can assist,” Cr McIntyre said.

Westgate Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant, Andrew Whelan, welcomed council’s assistance in addressing the problem.

“Illegal trail bike riding puts the safety of our residents at risk.

There is no excuse for someone to use our parks and reserves for illegal riding of

motorcycles or other illegal activities.”

Anyone who has witnessed illegal trail bike riding or motorbike hooning is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
