Grants of up to $100,000 are now available to community groups and organisations with ideas for how to make Wyndham safer.
The Wyndham Community Safety Grants are part of the wider Empowering Communities Grants Program funded by the state government.
The grants are designed to improve safety in Wyndam by funding projects that build a sense of community, encourage interfaith and intercultural understanding and help young people feel safer and make better life choices.
Another aim of the grants program is to build a network of so-called “Community Partners’ made up of local groups and organisations committed to improving safety and lowering crime in the municipality.
Wyndham Mayor Susan McIntyre said the grants had the potential to create both a safer and more cohesive community.
“This is an exciting project, it’s about creating collaboration and partnerships across
government and community agencies to address local crime and safety issues, using
the strengths that exist locally and the willingness of local people and organisations
to come together to strengthen community,” Cr McIntyre said.
Applications are now open and will close on July 4.
An information session will be held on Thursday June 15 and a project planning and grant writing session on Saturday June 24.
