Centrals almost cause upset

Werribee Centrals almost claimed an upset by defeating ladder leaders East Keilor in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 3.

Centrals managed to claim first innings points, but East Keilor managed to get something out of the game, getting a reverse outright result.

Centrals made a below par 122 in their first innings, with East Keilor bowled out for just 106 in reply.

Usman Ashraf took five wickets for the Centrals.

With plenty of time left in the game, Centrals were sent back in and skittled for just 90 in 39 overs.

It left East Keilor with a manageable task to get six points out of the game.

There was no collapse in the second innings, with East Keilor finishing 1-108.

The four points for Centrals could prove vital in the race to avoid relegation. Centrals sits seven points clear of Sunshine Heights heading into the final round.

Point Cook continued its good run of form, beating Williamstown Imperials.

Having restricted the Imperials to 119 on day one.

Point Cook had no trouble chasing down the runs, despite losing a couple of wickets with the target nearing.

Point Cook finished 9-198.

Darcy Harmer top scored with 49.

Point Cook sits in second spot with one round remaining. It can only go as low as third, but can still claim the minor premiership.

In division 4, Bellbridge wasn’t able to cause an upset against Maribyrnong Park St Marys.

After being happy with restricting Maribyrnong Park to 208 on day one, the Bears lost a wicket before stumps.

They lost another wicket early on day two before getting together.

The side would struggle to get partnerships after that with wickets falling quite regularly.

The Bears were bowled out for 161

Skipper Dillon Hinge top scored with 32 as several players got starts without going on with it.

In division 5, Wyndhamvale avoided an outright loss to Footscray Angliss.

Having already conceded first innings points, Wyndhamvale had to bat plenty of time of day two.

The side was eventually all out for 171, with not enough time for Angliss to bat again to try and get the outright.

Nathan Griffiths top scored for Wyndhamvale with 43.

Sanctuary Lakes will need a win in the final round to ensure its finals spot.

The Sharks suffered an upset loss to Melton Centrals on Saturday.

Centrals had made 266 on day one of the match.

The Sharks never got close, bowled out for 195. Rahul Patel top scored with 76 but there wasn’t many other contributors.

The Sharks enter the final round in fourth spot, only percentage ahead of fifth placed Sunshine YCW.
