Competition boatloads of fun

Australian Offshore Powerboat Club commodore Antony De Fina describes the upcoming Offshore Superboat Championships as a real festival style event for motor racing enthusiasts and family’s alike.

Held over two days starting Saturday, February 25, Mr De Fina says this is the fourth year the competition will take place.

“We have competitors coming from all around the country, from Queensland, New South Wales, local competitors as well,” he said.

“We have various boats running, from our sports class 65 mile an hour boats all the way up to world class super cat boats that do over 130 miles and hour.

“We love coming to Wyndham Harbour, it’s a great venue and we get great support.”

Mr De Fina said there will be “a lot of entertainment” for event visitors.

“It’s free of charge, people can come and there’s great vantage points to watch the boats up close,” he said.

“[There’s] jids entertainment, face painting, mini-golf, cafes, food vans, live music, a lot of things going on over the weekend,”

Mr De Fina said the event would consist of three races on Saturday, and three races on Sunday, and organisers would love for residents to attend.

“It is really cool for the area to get an event like this,” he said.

“We have two world champions that will racing at Wyndham Harbour, you don’t get any better in the world in terms of the drivers and the boats.”
