Werribee Rotary Club has completed a classroom equipment project at the Bahay Ni San Jose Orphanage in the Philippines.
An eight-classroom building at the orphanage, completed in 2022, is for children from kindergarten to grade 6 and was built entirely by companies donating materials and labour and with money donated by friends and supporters.
Werribee Rotary Club assisted with purchasing essential classroom equipment by providing $15,000 for the project, raising $10,000 and obtaining a $5000 Rotary Foundation Overseas Grant.
Cub president Ian Hovey said the project was made in collaboration with Cabanatuan City Rotary Club.
“The friendship between our two clubs has been cemented formally, by us joining together as sister clubs. In the future our two clubs may have an opportunity to work together on another project in the Philippines.”
The children housed at the orphanage come from troubled homes, have been abandoned or have mild physical, mental or hearing disabilities.
The orphanage is home to 52 children up to the age of 13 years.
