Wyndham council is seeking community input to help shape Woodville, Hoppers Crossing, into a 20-minute neighbourhood.
Council said the Woodville neighbourhood activity centre is one of the oldest in Wyndham and consists of a shopping centre, two schools, open spaces, recreation facilities and a kindergarten.
Wyndham mayor Susan McIntyre said the project will involve looking for ways to make Woodville a better place to live and work.
“We will aim to offer high-quality public open spaces, provide services and destinations that support locals, while also facilitating access to quality public transport that connects people to jobs and services,” she said.
“That may be by improving the movement network, enhancing public spaces, or supporting the local economy.
“The plan will be developed based on community feedback so we encourage the community to participate.”
The ideas shared with council will be used to create a place plan that aims to enhance Woodville
as a neighbourhood that can provide for most daily needs within 20 minutes of home, with access to local transport options, shops, workplaces, and recreation.
Wyndham’s city design portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan said it was important to keep updating neighbourhoods to make them relevant to the needs of the current community.
“Woodville was designed along the principles of the late 1970s and 1980s,” Cr Gilligan said.
“We’re looking to enhance Woodville utilising today’s more advanced understanding of place making and 20-minute neighbourhoods.
“We’re also interested in understanding the community’s support of housing and population densities that would increase the vibrancy of Woodville, support local businesses and provide the community with an increased range of housing choice.”
Residents can find out more by visiting a drop-in session at Woodville Park Shopping Centre on Wednesday,Febriary 15, from 3-5pm, or Saturday, February 18, from 10am-noon, or providing feedback on The Loop by March 5.
