Centrals alive, Point Cook, Sharks out

Werribee Centrals’ run in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 competition is alive for another round.

In the region 4 knockout group, the Centrals got the win against Gellibrand.

Centrals made 6-109 from their overs with Ahmed Sohaib Khan top scoring with 42 at the top of the order.

It was all single wicket takers for Gellibrand.

Gellibrand started well in the run chase but quickly went from 0-35 to 7-76. Gellibrand would fall seven runs short, finishing 8-103.

Usman Ashraf took 3-13 for Centrals.

Centrals will face Maribyrnong Park St Marys in the next round, after Maribyrnong Park beat Sanctuary Lakes.

Maribyrnong Park made 5-153 from its overs with all the top order making contributions.

Jonathan Grant top scored with 34.

Shivaay Shiv and James Doolan both took two wickets each for the Sharks.

The Sharks started their innings well and were at 2-69. Three quick wickets put the Sharks on the back foot.

The Sharks fell short, finishing 7-127.

Point Cook faces Yarraville Club were due to play on Thursday, but was postponed to Sunday due to rain.

Point Cook made 8-108, with the Clubbers making the runs with more than two overs remaining.

The Clubbers finished 5-109.

Meanwhile, Hoppers Crossing’s campaign is over in the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association T20 competition.

After the match didn’t go ahead last week due to rain, the Cats headed to Preston to face Preston.

Preston was sent in and made 6-182 from its overs. Skipper Michael Stretton top scored with 59.

Jeremy Swan and Shijit Chandran took two wickets each for the Cats.

The Cats got off to a solid start but lost four wickets to go from 1-87 to 5-92.

The Cats lower order fought back, but it wasn’t enough, with the Cats finishing 9-152.

Chandran top scored with 55 for the Cats.

Endeavour Hills beat St Bernard’s OC in the other semi final played on Tuesday, to join Preston, Brighton and Spotswood in the final four.
