Werribee has added some more scoring power, signing small forward Michael Selsby for this year’s Victorian Football League season.
Selsby is making the move to Victoria to further his football career, having played with Southport in recent seasons.
He played 20 games for Southport having crossed from the Gold Coast Suns Academy.
Last season he played the first 11 games of the season before a shoulder injury kept him on the sidelines until late in the campaign.
Werribee football manager Mark Micallef said the club was delighted to add the 21-year-old to their list.
“We’re really pleased to have Michael join us, after being involved in a successful program at Southport over recent years he knows what is required to succeed at this level,” he said.
“He’s a North Queensland boy who has really embraced the move to Victoria and we’re excited to have him with his ability to find the ball in dangerous positions and finish in front of goal.”
The announcement of the signing of Selsby is the latest for Werribee.
In the lead up to Christmas, Werribee announced the signings of young ruckman Kobe Annand, Sam Azzi and Noah Lever.
Annand joins Werribee from North Shore where he claimed best-on-ground honours in eight games in the Geelong Football League, finishing second in the club’s best and fairest.
Having trained with the club at the back end of last season, Micallef said Annand was deserving of a contract.
“Kobe’s really competitive and strong at the contest and plays the game the way it should be played, at high intensity,” he said.
“From what we saw this season we think Kobe has really high scope and we’re excited to give him the opportunity to be on a VFL list and can’t wait to see what he brings in 2023.”
Azzi played alongside co-captain Dom Brew at North Albury.
The 196cm defender finished runner-up in North Albury’s best and fairest last season after tallying the second most marks and third most contested marks in the Ovens and Murray.
With several VFL club’s showing interest in Azzi, Micallef said the club was thrilled to secure his signature.
“We think Sam has a bright future and we’re excited to see what he can develop into at this level,” he said.
“We’ve recruited him as a key defender but he’s a very versatile player having previously played up forward and on the wing.”
Lever joins Werribee having made his VFL debut with Williamstown last year.
Micallef said the club was delighted to have Lever sign.
“Noah is a player we had on our radar going back beyond the past year,” he said.
“Noah displayed some really good attributes at VFL level this year and, as a versatile midfielder with the ability to work from contest to contest, we’re excited to have him come on board.”
