The coalition has announced a series of election pledges across Wyndham in the lead up to the November state election.
An investment of $200,000 will be made to upgrade the Quarbing Street shopping strip in Werribee, including maintaining outdoor dining spaces, signage, public seating, and lighting and footpath upgrades.
Liberal Candidate for Werribee, Mia Shaw said investing in Quarbing Street was vital to support the community that rely on it.
“For Victoria to be number one again, the first step is to give local traders positive and practical support so they can stay open and grow their business.”
Ms Shaw also announced Chirnside Park Oval could soon host televised games and events, which she says is an “amazing upgrade” that will boost nearby businesses.
The coalition will invest $2 million towards upgrading the lighting system to 1000 lux, the lighting standard where games and events held at the oval can be televised, including AFLW and both men’s and women’s VFL games.
“If we’re getting more games heading to the MCG of the west, that means more spectators, more restaurant bookings, more hair appointments and more foot traffic in our stores.”
Ms Shaw said the park is an important sporting precinct for the Werribee community and is located nearby Werribee’s CBD, train station and freeway.
Sport opposition spokesperson, Cindy McLeish, said the announcement will mean more competition-grade playing fields suitable for broadcast.
“Victorians will be able to watch more sport, live from right in the heart of Werribee.”
