The Werribee River Association will host a come and try boating event for residents wanting to experience paddle boarding.

Community and business development manager Lisa Field said the Paddle the Werribee River event is suitable for people with little or no prior experience.

“The Werribee River Association is active in getting people to connect and protect the Werribee River,” she said.

“Getting on the water in a small craft offers a different perspective of the river, where you are close up to the water, plants, animals and the elements.

“For those who don’t own a kayak or have difficulty transporting a small boat, this event makes it very convenient to access the water.

“The Werribee River Association is also working to build their capacity for on waterway community events, with view to owning a small fleet of kayaks and canoes, for community usage.”

Instructions will be provided by Paddle Victoria, who will also run through important water safety tips prior to the event commencing.

The event is supported by Wyndham council and will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 10am-1.30pm at the Riverbend Historical Park in Werribee.

Residents are encouraged to wear suitable footwear, comfortable clothing and sunscreen, and bring a towel and drink bottle.
