The distance between Watton Street, Werribee and Sydney, New South Wales, is about 900 kilometres, slightly less than the 1000kms Les Porter will cycle to raise money for charity.

The 2022 Wyndham 1000 involves residents cycling from Pacific Werribee, along the River Track, Werribee CBD, Federation Trail, Hoppers Station and back to the shopping centre, every week day until November 12.

When Mr Porter became partially paralysed on the left side of his body following an accident in 1987, the support he received from the Salvation Army inspired him to return the favour.

This is 13th year Mr Porter will attempt to procure funds for the organisation, having already raised more than $100,000.

“Before that I did several interstate trips, from South Australia and New South Wales back to Werribee,” he said.

“I’ve been given the ability to do this to hopefully inspire others as well.”
