October 23, 1974

Werribee Shire Council will seek a deputation to the Metropolitan Board of Works to protest at the high level of rates levied on Werribee. Werribee is rated almost 50 per cent higher than most other metropolitan areas.

30 years ago

October 24, 1984

The general rate demand for Werribee this year contains good and bad news. The good news is that the increase is 2.9 per cent. The bad news is that, with an average revaluation on properties of more than 10 per cent, most people will face heftier rate bills.

October 19, 1994

A long-awaited report says that operators of the proposed Centenary Hall gaming venue would need 500 patrons daily, 50 poker machines in the first year, another 25 in the second year and another 30 in the third year of operation, to meet loan commitments.

Wyndham’s best leaders could go to waste if remunerations for the mayor and councillors are not increased, Wyndham mayor Henry Barlow warned this week. Cr Barlow’s comments followed a report in a Melbourne daily newspaper which referred to the Municipal Association of Victoria’s efforts to increase mayors’ annual salaries by up to $13,000 a year.
