The residents at Glendale Aged Care were serenaded by the sweet sound of singing pupils from St Mary of the Cross Primary School.
This was the first time the pupils were able to perform their choir session, as COVID-19 restrictions cancelled two events in the past.
St Mary’s community liaison coordinator Sally Haisman said the students rehearsed every week, and had put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for the concert.
“As part of our social justice initiative for the school we wanted to be able to entertain and bring some music to the residents of Glendale Aged Care, especially after such a long period of lock down where this has been unable to happen,” she said.
“The benefits of having the kids interact with the residents are; it offers our students the opportunity to interact with people of different ages and be involved with people of different generations and to be able to give care and support to others.
“It offers residents the opportunity to enjoy music, interact with children and enjoy having that energy around them.”
Ms Haisman hopes the students, aged between 11-13, gain a sense of “pride and enjoyment” in both their performance and in bringing happiness to others.
