Camping sites managed by Parks Victoria across the state are set to be improved thanks to a recently announced funding injection.
Victoria’s Great Outdoors initiative will see an investment of $106.6 million to improve the state’s parks, campgrounds, tracks, trails and outdoor facilities.
Parks Victoria’s operations executive director Kylie Trott said “Through Victoria’s Great Outdoors, there are more opportunities to stay in nature, with new and upgraded
campgrounds being planned right now.”
Campsite fees across Parks Victoria sites have been halved for bookable sites. More than 55,000 campers booked a camping trip last summer, an increase of 15,000.
The latest investment will see the Parks Victoria booking system improved at a cost of $1.56 million, making it easier to search through the state’s 131 bookable campgrounds.
Parks Victoria hopes the updated website will allow for more efficient confirmation of bookings, better functionality, as well as advanced filtering to find the perfect site for a campers’ needs, whether that be a serviced campsite or a remote campground.
Improvements are also intended to be made to 4WD routes across the state as well as walking tracks along the Otways and Central Victoria.
