Council seeks feedback on Werribee South beach master plan

Wyndham council is seeking community feedback on a draft master plan for Werribee South Beach that aims to make visiting the coast an enjoyable experience.

The draft Master Plan was developed using community feedback received over several years, and will attempt to enhance the beach as a community landmark while simultaneously protecting the natural environment.

The plan includes, new public toilets with facilities for people living with disabilities and accessible beach matting to the main beach shoreline, and additional picnic facilities, barbeque shelters and shade trees.

Feedback is also required on a new wetland deck overlooking the Werribee River, a fishing deck and seating area, renewal of the Wyndham Bay Trail and additional walking paths, as well as an updated playground, a dog off lead beach, sand dune restoration and a new summer overflow car park in Price Reserve

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said he was pleased to see the draft master plan respond to community feedback.

“There were many people who asked for all abilities access from the car park to the shoreline so that those with mobility and stability issues could be closer to the water,” he said.

“We’re pleased to include improved access to the beach in the draft master plan, in addition to improving the fishing experience with a new decking area and encouraging visitors to learn more about our wetlands with a new deck overlooking the Werribee River – not many know that our wetlands are home to migrating birds from as far as Siberia and Japan.

“In the summer Werribee South Beach is a hub of activity with cyclists, kids on scooters and parents pushing prams along the paths – it’s a wonderful place to play and exercise and the draft master plan gives our growing community even more opportunities to make the most of this picturesque area.”
