With its coach locked for next season, Glen Orden is now keen to add more pieces to the puzzle in the Western Region Football League division 2.
The Hawks have locked in Nathan Moon for next season, impressed with the structures the first year coach has in place.
The Hawks currently sit seventh, with an eye on a finals spot.
Moon said it was exciting to be locked in for next season.
“It’s our first full season in division 2 after winning the premiership,” he said.
“We’ve been able to mix it with Point Cook Centrals and had close games with most of the sides. We’ve beaten North Footscray and Wyndhamvale.
“Our best can match it with every team, but our worst has cost us.”
With Moon locked in, along with 15 senior players, the Hawks know they need to add in some more experience to help the side progress.
Moon said this season they had only two players older than 26, meaning there was a bit of a leadership void.
“We need to add some more experience to our coaching ranks,” he said.
“We’re looking for playing assistant coaches. Players with division 1 experience and are keen to look at coaching once their playing days are over.
“We want to add coaches for the reserves too. We want to add a bit of professionalism and build things around the players.”
Moon said they were already starting to look for new players as well, to help with the depth which they have lacked.
He said the club didn’t want to sit back and be an average club.
“We want to not only play finals, we want to do damage in finals. Hopefully we can get some quality people on board and we can raise the bar.”
While plenty of work is happening behind the scenes, the Hawks are still focused on trying to make finals this year.
While the Hawks sit in seventh, they are just four points outside the top four.
On Saturday, the Hawks had a disappointing loss to Newport, 12.8 (80)-10.13 (73). The Hawks had trailed by 47 points at three quarter, before kicking six goals to none to get back into the game in the last quarter.
Moon said while they know it will be tough to make finals, they hadn’t given up hope.
“I’ve done the old, who plays who scenarios,” he said. “We might just miss out on percentage, so we need results to go our way.
“Whoever gets nine wins should make it. We have to win all four of our games to get there.”
