Tough day out for West Point

West Point came up against a switched on Melton Phoenix on Saturday in the FV state league 5 west competition.

Facing the ladder leaders is always a tough ask, but it was made even harder by the Phoenix playing some of their best soccer.

The Phoenix led 2-0 at half time, before doubling the score in the second half to seal a 4-0 win and cement this spot at the top of the table.

West Point sits in fourth spot with nine wins for the season.

Wyndham, which sits second bottom, lost to Balmoral 7-2, after scores were locked at two-all at half time.

Meanwhile, in state league 2 north-west Hoppers Crossing proved no match for the Geelong Rangers.

Neither team scored in the first half, before the Rangers found their groove in the second half with four goals, to win 4-0.

Hoppers Crossing sits eighth on the ladder.

In state league 3 north-west, Point Cook had its moments against Altona North.

Alton North scored in the third minute, before Matt Gray scored the first of his two goals in the 18th minute to level the scores.

It didn’t last long with Altona North hitting back just minutes later with their second. A third goal followed shortly after.

Altona North extended the lead to 4-1 early in the second half. The Jets were soon a man down, with Sean Connor sent from the field after a second red card.

Gray got a second goal in the 81st, but the damage had been done with the Jets losing 4-2.

In state league 4, Truganina Hornets got a rare win, beating Spring Hills.

Most of the action happened in the first half, with scores locked at 2-2 at the break.

Mulowa Sikongo scored in the dying minutes to give the Hornets the win, 3-2.
