It’s not everyday the kids at Point Cook Library have their story-time books read to them by an award winning singer, songwriter and author.
Josh Pyke brought his guitar, his children’s books and his sense of humour to Wyndham on Friday, June 24.
Despite the crowd of toddlers and children not being the typical age of audience members at a gig, Pyke said performing for a younger crowd is just as fun.
“Kids are so honest and authentic in their answers and interaction, it’s a really beautiful experience,” he said.
Pyke wrote his first kids book and had it published in 2019, and says there’s many differences between writing music and penning a book.
“Writing songs is more about waiting for inspiration to strike and I never know when i’m gonna write a song,” he said.
“Writing a kids book, it’s more like you think of an idea and you sit down and you actually sort of academically get that happening, so it’s a bit more of a structured process.”
However, regardless of age, there is one thing Pyke hopes his audience feels during a performance.
“Togetherness, whether or not you’re playing a show for adults or reading books for kids, the idea of everybody being in a space, having a shared experience is what I would like them to come away with, particularly after COVID I think that’s something we should all be holding dear,” he said.
