NAB League

The Western Jets had a tough day at the office against the Sandringham Dragons on Sunday in the NAB League Boys competition. It was a fairly even first half on the scoreboard, before the Dragons kicked four goals to two in the third quarter to increase the lead to 27 points at the last break. The Dragons were able to extend the margin, winning 13.16 (94)-8.6 (54).

National Championships

Two Western Jets will compete against the best under-18 football talent in the country at the under-18 boys national championships starting this weekend. The final squads for Vic Metro and Vic Country were announced on Friday morning, following two trial matches between the teams last weekend. Point Cook’s Cameron Kizan and Keilor’s Jovan Petric are the two Jets players in the squad. The two Victorian sides will each play three matches throughout June and July as part of the championships, before concluding the championships with a Vic Metro versus Vic Country showdown in September.

GDFL

A last quarter comeback by Werribee Centrals fell short in the Geelong and District Football League on Saturday. The Centrals trailed Thomson by 46 points at the last break, before a six goal to two last quarter, reduced the margin to 21 points with Thomson winning, 17.13 (115)-14.10 (94). Jordan Leggieri and Patrick Daley were named among the best for the Centrals.

VNL

The City West Falcons were given a reality check in the Victorian Netball League on Wednesday. Facing the Geelong Cougars in a top of the table clash, the Falcons put out one of their most disappointing performances of the season. The Cougars got the jump early, and despite the Falcons getting within five goals twice, were able to run away with a convincing 68-53 win. Falcons coach Marg Lind said the group didn’t adapt to the changing environment that was around them.
