Titans big turnaround

Two months is a long time in football, just ask Tarneit in Western Region Football League division 3.

In round two, the Titans were smashed by Sunshine Heights to the tune of 107 points in what was a disappointing day for the Titans.

Fast forward to Saturday, when the two teams faced each other for a second time.

There would be no big win to the Dragons, as it would be the Titans that came away with the points, winning 14.8 (92)-5.16 (46).

Titans president Terrance Bradley said it was a nice little win for the side.

“It’s a good turn around from when we played them earlier in the year,” he said. “It was a 153-point turnaround.

“The boys have gelled a lot more. There were new players who have settled and boys who have come from injury.

“The performance was how the coach wanted them to play.”

Bradley said inside the four walls of the club rooms, they had been confident of getting the points on Saturday.

He said it was nice to get some reward for the effort they had been putting in.

The Dragons led at the first break by two points, before the Titans used the wind to kick five goals to none in the second quarter.

The Titans led by 14 points at the last break, with the wind at their disposal in the last quarter.

Bradley said they thought they could get the job done,

“It was a bit of a strange wind this time,” he said. “It was blowing south-west and the scoring end was towards the club rooms.

“We 100 per cent thought we could get the win in the last. It was a really good game and we’re always confident, but we didn’t take it for granted.

“The team had a lot of belief.”

Ryan Langford and Jayden Osborne kicked three goals each for the Titans. Luke Price and Zach Thornton were named best.

The win is the Titans third for the season. They sit just outside the top four.

Bradley said the result was the confidence that the group needed.

“The expectation right from the state when the coach came in, was he said finals were on the table,” he said.

“Yesterday’s game we had to win with Sunshine Heights sitting in fourth. It was about being able to prove to the playing group that finals are really a possibility.

“We’ll keep plugging away as we did against Sunshine Heights and worry about finals if and when we get there.”

In other results, ladder leaders Albanvale smashed Laverton, 40.21 (261)-2.3 (13).

Luke Montrose kicked 13 goals, while Nathan Johnson kicked 11 goals for the Cobras.

The Suns got a handy win against Braybrook, 12.5 (77)-5.12 (42).

There were no games in division 1 and 2 due to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
