Werribee City’s tough run in the National Premier League 2 competition continued on Saturday.

The Bees, who haven’t claimed any points since round three, were again on the wrong side of a big loss, this time against Langwarrin. Langwarrin scored twice in the first half before sealing it in the second half, winning 3-0. The Bees sit 10th. The Bees this week face the Goulburn Valley Suns.

Canterbury had a day out against the Westbourne Grammarians in the Victorian Amateur Football Association division 3 competition. Canterbury piled on the goals in the 29.19 (193)-6.5 (41) win. Benjamin Johnson kicked two goals for the Grammarians, while Benjamin Hodge was again a standout. The Grammarians sit bottom of the table without a win.

A-League

A big 12 months for Ben Garuccio got even bigger with the left back winning Western United’s player of the season medal on Wednesday night. Having joined the club this season, Garuccio played a key role in the club’s first championship last weekend. Garuccio won the medal with 83 votes, one ahead of Connor Pain, while Lachie Wales finished third on 79 votes. Garuccio was stunned to take home the top award at the club’s inaugural awards night. “To be honest I didn’t expect it,” he said. “To be standing here is just out of this world for me. I’m so happy to be part of this club.”

City West Falcons continued on their winning run in the Victorian Netball League. The Falcons, who are now on a six game winning streak, had a solid win against the North East Blaze on Wednesday night. After an even first half, the Falcons opened up a break and would eventually win 68-58. Falcons coach Marg Lind said while they were happy to get the win, they needed to step things up a bit more.
