Uniting launches Wyndham Winter Local Appeal

Residents in Wyndham are being asked to donate new blankets, bedding, tents, winter clothes and thermal flasks to help local people sleeping and families in need in the municipality.

Uniting Vic.Tas delivers community services across Victoria and Tasmania, and as part of their Wyndham Winter Local Appeal, have asked community members to donate to the cause.

Appeal Co-ordinator Deborah Gorsuch said the donations would help people living on the street as well as families living in poverty.

“This is a time of great uncertainty, costs are rising and we know there are many people in our community who are really struggling,” Ms Gorsuch said.

“It’s always the most disadvantaged people in our community who are hardest hit, especially during the colder months.”

Ms Gorsuch said people’s donations, regardless of the size, would make a “real difference”.

“There are more people living on the streets, living in their cars and living in poverty having to make impossible choices between the basics such as paying the rent and putting food on the table,” Ms Gorsuch said.

Donations of new doonas, doona covers and linen can also be made in person at Uniting Wyndham, 19 Duncans Road, Werribee between 10am-2pm, Monday to Friday.
